Alternatives

Open-source alternatives to Jira, Linear and Trello

Jira, Linear and Trello hold a team’s backlog, sprints and roadmaps, and the bill grows with every seat. These projects track issues and plan work on a server you run, with your data in a database you can query and back up.

They range from kanban boards close to Trello to full project suites with Gantt charts, time tracking and portfolios. If you are leaving Jira, look for an importer and for the integrations your team uses every day, such as GitHub or GitLab links and Slack notifications.

How this list is ranked

50% health, 50% momentum. Projects younger than 12 months, or too new to assess, are listed under Rising newcomers while they gain stars. Only projects updated in the last 90 days are listed.

How the score is computed

Health (0–100) reflects release cadence, recent commit activity and the number of active contributors.
Momentum (0–100) is stars gained in 30 days ÷ √(stars before), scaled within this collection, so a small project growing fast can outrank a large one.
A project under 12 months old (or too new to assess) appears among the newcomers as long as it is gaining stars.
Members come from matching rules (GitHub topics, keywords in the description and README) plus a short hand-kept include and exclude list. The ranking is recomputed every hour from public GitHub activity.
