About Upstar

Upstar is a trending list for GitHub, per topic. GitHub’s own trending page is dominated by projects that already have tens of thousands of stars; Upstar ranks star velocity inside each topic, so the emulator, the self-hosted tool or the Rust crate that is taking off in its niche shows up first.

How to use it

  • Explore topics and open any topic to see what is rising today, this week or this month.
  • Sign in with GitHub to follow topics like subreddits: your feed mixes the rising repositories of every topic you follow, and Upstar suggests topics from the repositories you have starred.
  • Get the weekly digest by email, or alerts when a repository takes off in one of your topics.
  • Bookmark repositories to come back to them, and hide the ones you are not interested in.

How rankings are made

The score, the minimum number of stars, how new repositories are found and how star farming and adult content are kept out are described in How trending works.

Independent and ad-light

Upstar is an independent project. It uses no tracking scripts; see Privacy. It is not affiliated with GitHub, Inc.
