ChatGPT keeps your conversations on OpenAI’s servers and ties you to its models and plans. These apps give you the same chat window, often with file uploads, search and agents, on top of models running on your own hardware or any provider you pay directly.
Some are desktop or mobile apps for one person, others are web workspaces for a team with accounts and shared prompts. Local models need a recent GPU or Apple silicon to answer quickly; with your own API keys you pay per use instead of a monthly plan.
